Van Alter was dreamt up as a calling from a deep creative space

a quiet pull to make something tactile, expressive, and real.
coming from the world of interior styling,

i was always creating custom pieces that didn’t exist

and that thrill of making something from nothing has never left me.
even back in school, i could lose hours wandering fabric stores,

running my hands along rolls of satin and calico,

completely captivated by colour and texture.
after having my daughter,

i felt that same creative pull again

this time, to build something of my own.
and so, van alter was born.

a simple idea: using fabric to soften the edges of what already exists.

a light touch. no stockrooms full of furniture

just fabric, feeling, and form.
with my juki machine beside pink satin drapes and an animal-print rug,

my daughter and i share not just a room,

but a rhythm creating, experimenting, getting it done together.
i haven’t always been a sewer

for years, my pieces were brought to life by the fabulous david.

but lately, i’ve slowed down.

i’ve read, watched, and followed those who inspire.

i’ve learned to stitch my own story, quite literally.
i’ve always been drawn to fabric especially in fashion,

the way it drapes and shapes, the way it creates silhouettes.

these moments of movement and softness

shouldn’t only belong to bodies.

they deserve to transform spaces too.
